Experience
Over the past seven years I have equipped myself with the necessary skills to effectively lead and instruct groups of various ages and backgrounds within an outdoor setting. I’ve done this both through studying for an Outdoor Education BA honours and gaining practical work experience. I have led groups on Cannyoning trips down the Afon Mellte, I have also led younger groups up the Sychrhyd - this work was on behalf of Call of the Wild (CotW). But I have expanded this to included work with other providers on a freelance basis. I have led many groups around the Brecon Beacons on day hikes and three day expeditions for both CotW and Menter Iaith, I’ve also trained and supervised participants on Duke of Edinburgh awards for Menter Iaith, as a fluent Welsh speaker I was able to deliver these courses through the medium of Welsh.

I’ve assisted on many climbing days both for Menter Iaith and CotW; and have consolidated my SPA skills by leading group climbing days with Rhosili Outdoor Education Centre (ROEC), specifically GCSE climbing modules for PE, on behalf of a number of Swansea and Neath Port Talbot based secondary schools. This I would say is the work I enjoy most, outdoor education and the opportunity it provides to facilitate true reflective experiential learning is extremely rewarding to me and something I excel in. For three months (May – September 2004) I developed my experience in a wider range of activities and refined my leadership skills firstly by working with CotW on a summer contract, and secondly through the course of my degree, Outdoor Education at Carmarthen University. I have worked as a freelance instructor for a number of outdoor companies within the South Wales area, and have recently carried out a lot of work on behalf of ROEC; which has allowed me to develop my leading capacity as a surf instructor and coasteering facilitator. In addition to this I have found extremely rewarding work with Fairbridge Swansea a charitable organisation with the intent of personal development through the medium of Outdoor Activities; this has been my most challenging work to date yet very satisfying. I am keen to develop as an instructor, I have completed a UKCC Kayak/Canoe Coaching award and wish to develop my experience further I am aspiring to undertake my 3 star training for both kayak white water and canoe, Mountain Biking greatly appeals to me and I would enjoy developing the personal experience of this activity in preparation for further professional development.
